Byline's Biennial Poetry Chapbook Competition

Entry — Manuscript page length: between 20-30 pages. Poems must be typed on 8 1/2" x 11" paper and bound with a spring clip. Use a standard 12 pt font (Garamond, Arial or New Times Roman). No illustrations may be included. Do not include photocopies of poems from magazines or journals. Please submit only one copy of your manuscript. Manuscripts should include no more than one poem per page (maximum length of poems should be 39 lines including title and stanza breaks.
A complete submission should include:
A separate cover sheet with the contest name — (The Byline Biennial Chapbook Contest), your name, address, telephone, email, and any other relevant contact information. You must also include a statement that all poems are your own original work. Your name should not appear anywhere else in the manuscript.
A title page with just the title of the manuscript.
An acknowledgements page. Poems included in your manuscript may be previously published, but please include an acknowledgements page listing specific publications. Note: previous publications and/or the inclusion of published poems will not serve as a determining factor in the screening or judging of manuscripts.
A complete Table of Contents.
Payment of a $20.00 non-refundable entry fee (check or money order payable in U.S. dollars to Byline magazine.), which includes a three-month subscription/extension of a ByLine subscription. Please do not send cash. Multiple submissions are accepted, but please note: we require separate entry fees for each manuscript you submit.
Self-addressed stamped post card for confirmation of receipt and a self-addressed #10 stamped envelope for announcement of the winners. (International submissions must include an international mailing coupon)
Manuscripts by more than one author will not be accepted. Translations will not be accepted.
Place the coversheet on top of your entry and mail FLAT to Byline Chapbook Contest, P.O. Box 111, Albion, NY 14411. Winners will be announced in the December 2008 issue. Manuscripts will not be returned and no electronic or faxed submissions will be accepted.
Note: if your manuscript is accepted for publication elsewhere, you must immediately notify Byline.
Prize: A $200 cash award, plus 50 copies of the published book. Additional copies available at an author's discount. All finalists will receive one copy of the published book.
Deadline: June 1, 2008. Manuscripts postmarked after June 1 will not be read.
Judging: All manuscripts will be read by published poets. Final judging will done by prize-winning poet and author Ellen Bass, whose fourth book of poems, The Human Line, was just published by Copper Canyon Press in June 2007.
